That all depends on if you believe in evolution or in creation involving a Divine Creator.
If you believe in evolution then life really has no purpose, it would simply be a matter of survival of the fittest and supposed natural selection.
On the other hand, if you belive in a Creator then life would most definitely have a purpose being that nothing is created without a reason. For instance, if you were to take a certain brand of ball point pen and someone asked you what it was and what its purpose is you would obviously know the answer.
However, the creator of that particular ball point would know EVERYTHING there is to know about it... from the material it's made of right down to the particular ink inside it, perhaps even the proper way in which to hold the pen for maximum performance.
Now then, a person could easily use that ball point pen for something OTHER than what it was CREATED for such as lets say holding up a loose window and though it would work, the pen simply is not being used for what it was intended for. The same goes for a LOT of individuals lives.
MANY people are simply living their lives in such a way as completely missing their PURPOSE of life... THE PURPOSE of life if you will. Just as someone wanting to know the intricate particulars involving the makeup of the ball point point could easily obtain the answers from its creator, a person wanting to know the purpose of life can only obtain such an answer from mans Creator.
The Holy Bible states CLEARLY that it is from the Divine Creator and proves itself to be just that. No human being can accurately fortell the future 100% each and every single time, but the Holy Bible does this over and over and again proving that it is from a higher source than human beings. It explains what the purpose of life is, why we are here, what the Creators personal name is (JEHOVAH as stated at Psalm 83:18), why we grow old and die, what happens in death, why the Creator allows bad things to happen, why life is so messed up and how the Creator will fix things by means of a supernatural Heavenly Government (or Kingdom) in the hands of His Only Begotten Son the Messiah (a.k.a Jesus Christ).
To answer your question more directly, the purpose of life is simply to live a full and satisfying life in harmony with the Creators will as found in the "instruction manual" of mankind... The Holy Bible.
King Solomon, the wisest imperfect human and king to ever walk the earth knew this to be factual and wrote so in the Bible book of Eccesiates chapter 12 and verse 13.

The meaning of life is to be the best person you can be -- treat others like you want to be treated. Say what you mean and mean what you say. Be responsible to yourself, your family, and your community. Be kind to people and dumb animals; particularly those less fortunate. Try to lend a hand when you can. Celebrate your faith as you see it. Share of yourself and let others share with you. Set a standard for yourself but don't judge others by it. Stand tall but don't be condescending.

To live every day as if it were your last, and believe in god and his purpose. You are in the image of the lord Jesus Christ, and hopefully with all being said, take care and love life and others as much as you can because some day we'll all have to answere to the man upstairs. God Bless and Take Care.

To make the best use of the precious little time we have in this world. Each person must decide for himself/herself what the "best use" is.
This is our time. Make the most of it.
Oh, and can I have fries with that?

To eat as much fast food as you can, so you die of a heart attack as soon as possible. I know fast food is bad for me, but I can't help it. It's so good.
