It's closed air in there....no circulation.

Use arm n' hammer ref. deodorizer for the ref. & the freezer.

You probably have foods such as garlic, onions, or other fresh veggies in the refrigerator that are not properly covered, or you might have a strong cheese that you can smell even though it may be covered. The best thing to do is not ever let anything get smelly in your refrigerator. Mine doesn't stink. I don't put ANY food that's uncovered in there. The problem is that the smells are leaking onto the other foods... very similarly to how you might marinate something. This is a problem. Clean out your refrigerator by taking out all or most of the foods (that you can--or maybe just one shelf at a time)... wrapping up the unwrapped goods, cleaning the shelves (with a cleaner and then wiping them with water) and then putting them all back neatly. Take the time. It's worth it.

Place a box of Baking Soda w/lid off in your refrigerator, this will cure your problem. Arm and Hammer even has a special box just for this look in the baking section of your Supermarket. Remember to replace with a fresh box every 90 days or so.

Refrigerators tend to dry out food, pulling moisture out, and the dry foods more easily absorb flavors/odors.

Because it absorbs the Oder's from everything else in there. Use Arm and Hammer. But also cover your food
