Well, one of my best friends (a guy) has told me that he has low self-esteem. He's always talkin about himself, but I never notice what he's talking about. I always tell him he's cute, and he looks great, but he probably thinks I'm lying...I'm telling him the truth! Should I just keep doin what I already am to boost his self esteem? Or should I try a different approach?

well I think its working for him !?!? If he tells you he has a low self esteem and you shower him with your attention instead of normal talk he gets all the attention and you are just being used to make him feel good...he knows hes hot..he just wants to see how far you will go to assure him of it

You can't boost his self esteem - that will be an issue for him to work on. Young people often grow out of this naturally. The ugly smart girl or guy will probably be an attractive professional by the 10th year reunion. If the lack of confidence is causing depression or something serious - then he should see a counselor. Group therapy can be great as it allows for unbiased feedback and very honest exchanges.

your compliments will not help. if he has low self-esteem, he'll continue thinking you're just saying things to make him feel good. low self-esteem is usually the result of some failure and the continuous fear that you're not good enough. tell him to take a self-esteem course. also tell him to join a club on an activity he likes. once he's doing what he enjoys and is good at it, it'll make him feel a lot more self-assured.

Why don't you drop him a note telling him what you are saying verbally include some positive statements about him that you have observed, and redirect him when he starts talking negative
Also Invite him out with your friends and be persistant
