I own a Sony Ericsson K800i Cybershot phone. At the top left of the screen, to the immediate right of the signal strength monitor, is a little blue icon that looks like a series of elliptical blue cicles fanning out from each other... like ripples radiating out from a stone thrown into a pond. Can anyone tell me why it's there, what it means, and how I can get rid of it?

It is NOT BLUETOOTH, as both that, and the infared, are most definately turned off.

It means that the 3G (UMTS) network is available for faster downloads and video calling...
The only way to get rid of it is to turn the 3G mode off via the menu's. If you don't use the web browser it won't make any difference. Try the following;
MENU - SETTINGS - CONNECTIVITY - MOBILE NETWORKS - GSM/3G NETWORKS.
All you then need to do is choose GSM only.

Sounds like bluetooth. It allows you to transfer files to another mobile wirelessly

Sounds like it is the icon/label which tells you that the signal strength monitor is exactly that.
I do not think you will be able to get rid of it.

It's probably saying your bluetooth is turned on.

BLUETOOTH IS ON GO TO MENU CONECTIVITY AND TURN OFF UNLESS YOU NEED IT MORE SECURE THAT WAY

Do you have Bluetooth? If so then that is your answer.
