I have a '91 Lincoln Continental. Sometimes when i´m on the gas pedal, the car shudders for maybe 1-2 seconds. I don't notice it so much when i let the car "free-ride" downhill. What can this be? Also, (i do NOT know if it's related) the transmission seems to be very "indecisive" about what gear to stay in.

Sounds like the torque converter in the trans is misbehaving on you. Have the trans checked or serviced soon.
good luck
