The Poem “Night” is written by Anne Hébert which is a very interesting and touching Poem. Basically, the context of the Poem is that a man is about to die and he is willing to do so. The mood of the poem is definitely very sad but this man feels relieved and calm because he is going to die and he thinks that he will find eternal peace. For instance, when he says, “I close my eyes” it means to me that he is ready to leave the world. I also think that when he says “I decipher no mysteries" it means his time has come and there is nothing strange about that because it is natural.
The speaker in this Poem the author itself, she is talking to herself, she describes in what kind of situation she is in and what she will do. The audience of the Poem, would be the night, the silence and the natural environment.
There are lots of poetic devices in Poem such as similes, metaphors and foreshadowing’s. For instance a simile, when it says “like a lighthouse” it describes the heart sending its beats. Moreover, it also states that at each flash of light he closes his eyes; to put it another way it means that at each heart beat he closes his eyes, this is a personification because it compares human qualities to inanimate objects.
Another example for a poetic device would be Hyperbole, such as when it says “I hear my hear sending its light and dark signals”. This is an over exaggeration which shows intensity of feelings. There is also an example of foreshadowing in the last stanza , when it says “I close my eyes”. In other words gave us an idea that the Poem would come to an end and that the man would slowly die now.
To sum up, the theme of the poem is that sometimes we all fell bad about things that happen, however we should approach it differently. In fact, the best way of dealing with this kind of problems is that we should sit down and talk to someone about the problem.
In brief, this a very sad and dramatic poem where feelings are tossed all over the place. I really liked this poem and I would especially recommend it to other teenagers.

Hi, Ryan,

Are you turning this in as homework for high school? I think it's pretty good so far. Let me suggest printing your version out, then read my version where I've tweaked it a little, and you can decide whether to make the changes I've made. Please compare your version and mine so that you can learn from the suggestions ;-) You succeeded in making ME want to read the poem! Could you either post it here or email it to me, please? FMosconi@aol.com

Can you post here on Yahoo Answers what is your age? I think your writing is quite good overall. As an adult who once majored in English and whose best friend is an editor, I've just tried to dust it off a bit.

TAKE OUT the capital P every time you've used it at the start of "poem" and replace it with lower case p.

+%#---Would you please fix my mistakes and Grammar? :-))?

The Poem “Night”, written by Anne Hébert, is a very interesting and touching Poem. The context of the Poem is that a man is about to die and he is willing to do so.

The mood of the poem is definitely very sad, and yet this man feels relieved and calm because he is going to die and he thinks that he will find eternal peace. For instance, when he says, “I close my eyes”, it means to me that he is ready to leave the world. I think that when he says “I decipher no mysteries", it means his time has come and there is nothing strange about that because it is natural.

The speaker in this Poem the author itself. She is talking to herself, describing the situation she is in and what she will do. The audience of the Poem is the night, the silence, and the natural environment.

Hebert uses metaphors and foreshadowing. One simile, “like a lighthouse”, describes the heart sending its beats. It also conveys that at each flash of light he closes his eyes. To put it another way: at each heart beat, he closes his eyes. This is a personification because it compares human qualities to inanimate objects.

Another example of a poetic device is hyperbole, such as “I hear my heart sending its light and dark signals”. This is an exaggeration which shows intensity of feelings. There is foreshadowing in the last stanza; when it says “I close my eyes”, it gives us the idea that the Poem will come to an end and that the man will slowly die now.

To sum up, the theme of the poem is that sometimes we all feel bad about things that happen, but we should approach that differently. The best way of dealing with this kind of problem is to sit down and talk to someone about it.

This a very sad and dramatic poem where feelings are tossed all over the place. I really liked this poem and I would especially recommend it to other teenagers.

- Just glancing, I might suggest that you re-examine the second paragraph. Change it to something more like "The author of this poem is speaking to herself when she is describing the situation she's in etc..... It's less redundant and and a little more straight forward.
