I have to make a container that will absorb heat and trap it to warm a cup of water for physical science.The container is going to be placed in the sun or under a lamp depending if the weather is nice for 30 minutes.Im not sure how to make the container,i need some suggestions.

Heat is lost by radiation and conduction. You can minimize radiation losses by making the opening to your container as small as possible. Conductive losses can be minimized with good insulation. A thermos is very suitable for the job. Light can be collected from a larger area than the thermos by using a lens or an array of mirrors (solar concentrator). The radiant energy should be directed onto a black surface in thermal contact with the water. I would suggest using a short length of 1/2 inch blackened copper pipe inserted into the thermos for this purpose. Cover the top of the thermos with Al foil, leaving holes for the copper pipe, a thermometer, and pressure relief. You can expect to collect about 1 calorie per minute per cm^2 of lens area assuming that you collect 1/2 of the solar constant. Good luck.

Take a tub-like container. Paint it black from inside and cover with glass. Put a cup of water inside it and put the whole thing in sun with glass facing the sun. It may be tilted to allow more and more sun to fall on the glass.
