I'm so sorry you had to go through this. It's a difficult decision to terminate a pregnancy no matter what the situation.
At this point, I would suggest you talk to your doctor about the chances of it happening again. These things are usually quite rare. I would strongly suggest you have the tests run as soon as possible, which should be about 14 weeks. I wish I could give you more reassurance but getting pregnant is at all times a big gamble. I have never experience this personally and I hope things go well for you this time.
Shame on the people above who are judgemental about this. Neural tube defects encompass a wide variety of congentital defects and can be minor or extremely severe. You don't know the whole medical case history. You don't know if the other child would have survived or not. This woman has gone through enough. Stop harassing her.

I found a nice article at
www.emedicine.com
(Sorry, don't know how to paste it in as a direct link.) It indicates that the causes are unknown, but that they have found some links between between ethnicity and nutrition. You can't do anything about ethnicity, but maybe the nutritional suggestions might be helpful. Many birth defects just happen. All you can do is take care of yourself for the best of the baby and try not to worry too much.

I am very sorry. What a hard thing to go through. I just took my triple screen test on Friday and am awaiting the results. I understand your anxiety on your existing preg. I don't think I would be strong enough to try again. Good luck, I am sure everything will be OK with this one.
