The new Age Discrimination Law has nothing to do with the minimum wage. It just means employers cant refuse to employ people because of their age.

The minimum wage went up on the 1st October for all age groups.

The age discrimination act does not really cover NMW, only so much that 2 people doing the same job for the same length of time and same hours cannot get different wages because of their ages, but even that is not quiet a consistent explanation.

The Age discrimination laws came into effect to restrict employers targeting young people, older people or declining people based on age.

The NMW still sits unchanged based on this, but on the other hand was raised independently to reflect increased living cost.
