I am currantly taking 4 mg of warfarin/day. It has been recommended I start taking 1 tsp. of pure omega 3 daily. I am concerned that the omega 3's are a natural blood thinner and would interfer with the warfarin. I may be able to stop taking the warfarin shortly (completely). Would it be ok to start taking the omega 3 now?

You should talk to your healthcare professional. Warfarin is a very picky drug and if your blood is too thin you could have trouble. Who recommended the omega 3 to you? Talk to your doctor! Don't mess around with your health!

I'd say you'd be safe taking the Omega 3s now. It's doubtfull that there'd be any conflict. Nutritional supplements especially ones based on common foods are generally pretty safe.
Think of it this way: Would eating some salmon interfere w/your meds? Not likely. Warfarin is a blood thinner. Omega 3s are an EFA (Essential Fatty Acid). The 'essential' means we must have them and get them from food sources. Our bodies cannot make them. A medication that was affected by a needed nutrient wouldn't be very helpful and probably wouldn't last too long. Warifin has been around for awhile.

I take warfarin and I'm seen every 5 weeks to test my levels. You should be checked periodically too. You need to check with your warfarin practioner and discuss this.
