It seems so simple! 1.5 V battery switched onto low voltage side of spark generator. No sparks. New spark generator. Still no sparks. Definitely getting 1.5V on input side of SG. Spark points look clean. Could they all be too wide? At the same time? Won't some work and some not if it just about gaps? All ideas gratefully received.

Is the push button making contact ok? Is there a nicked or damp lead anywhere? Is the neg. of the battery earthed well?

Do the leads to the spark gaps pull out of the SG box, are they on the contacts properly? Take them all off except one and try it alone. You don't say you've tried a new battery, don't rely on a voltage tester, the voltage will drop under load.

Check the wire connecting the generator to the sparker. If it has been bared somewhere or even pinched it may be shorting out. If the insulation on the wire has cracked it may be simply sparking before it reaches the end. Check after dark, if possible and , of course, with the gas turned off. In the dark you should be able to easily see if the spark is happening in the wrong place.

i believe that the sparks never depends on a 1.5 V battery...
i think this battery is for some other accessory (Digital Clock)
i think the sparks needs you to plug the power cable into the electricity socket. :)
