Both, I think...different types for different things. Lipids are fats, by the way.
I think that what happens is the body takes fat and carbs from food and uses them for different processes. I know cell membranes are lipid bi-layers (two layers of lipids), and sometimes they have carbohydrates attatched.
Sorry that's confusing. I hope it helps.

The macromolecules are carbohydrates, lipids, proteins and nucleic acids, they are found in every living thing on this planet. So, when you eat food you are eating the "building blocks" that your body will take apart and use to make the things that it needs, like new tissues, cells or energy to run the mitochondrial engines. Just think of it as a set of legos, the cow uses it to put together cow parts and you take it apart and use it to put toghether human parts, but the legos don't change. Short answer: BOTH

Carbs are ingested but lipids are found and produced in your body. The liver produces choelsterol at night. That's why most patients are instructed to take their cholesterol medication at night because that's when you cholesterol levels are most high due to the livers production.

Originally in food. We need the food to get all those types of fats and energies to sustain us.
