That happened to my friends iPod nano, and it survived. Sometimes, maybe even rarely, iPods don't work straight after water washed over it but start working in a week or even more. So give it a bit of time and if it doesn't work, then take it in (to Apple) and get it looked at.

Unlikely, but such things have been known to work after drying out so don't give up hope yet! Is it covered under an insurance policy at all?

Put it on the radiator to dry out, or in the airing cupboard and hope for the best.

It's unlikely, but my CD player worked after I dried it out when it fell in the toilet, so I'd dry it out best as you can and hope for the best.
