stating the processor speed would have been nice, but as a rule I always recommend memory over processor. 256mb of memory is the minimum taht you should use with WIN XP. The more (up to 1gig) the better. If you machine can take it, put in at least another 256. You will see a remarkable difference

There are many ways you can make a computer faster:
Chage the cpu.
Change the hard drive to a faster one
Change to a better video card or overload it
Upgrade the memory
Reduce the running applications at the same time
clean your hard drive: disk cleanup and defragment
Internet connections: cable is better than dial connection

You could try defragmenting the hard drive. I'm not sure what OS you're running, but try right clicking on your Local Disk and going into properties, then Tools and defragmenting. It may help. Other than that, I'd say go to a store and buy another memory stick. They're not that expensive.

The small icons on the system tray (the bottom right) have programs that are resident in memory. Right-click them and click close on any program you don't want. Also, you can defragment your hard-drive and get rid of any programs that are in your startup folder (start-programs-startup).

Yes.... You can decrease the number of programs starting at startup ( whose icons appear on the taskbar beside the watch )
Start-> Run -> Type "msconfig" -> "Startup" tab-> UNcheck the boxes beside the programs you don't want to run at the startup...
-> Click "Ok" -> Restart...
When you restart.. a message box will appear to you... Check the box... and click Ok...

Defragment your computer. But, that will only do so much. Memory is by far the best investment for your computer. :o)

select start and click on control panel and double click on add remove and a new window will appear and any program you dont use click remove. this should help your ram not have to boot up programs you dont use. or you can spend a bit of money and buy some ram and/or processor.

get another 256mb. Any more than that and it won't make any real difference.
