Mine is Prince Rupert of the Rhine. He was couragous, generous, loyal and brave. A nice role model. He fought on King Charles I side during the English Civil War.

King Henry V111 wanted a son to succeed him who would be strong enough to take the nation forward. Instead he had a daughter who would become Queen Elizabeth 1 and she was indeed a remarkable woman.
There is however one person who stands out and that is Winston Churchill. He had the guts to defy Hitler at a time when Germany was on the brink of world domination.
His leadership and his rallying speeches gave heart to a nation that had not yet got over the loss of a generation of young men in WW1.
For almost 3 years British and commonwealth forces fought to keep the world free and eventually when America intervened it was just a matter of time before the Nazi Empire was defeated.

It's gotta be Douglas Bader. He fought in the Second world war with wooden legs. (Lost them in a crash before WW2, 1931) He was an ace pilot (fifth highest kill score) and a great commander. To do all of this with no legs was truly amazing!

When he was shot down and captured, the Germans had enough respect for him to allow the British to send him a replacement leg, as one was damaged. While in captivity he made every effort to escape, proving to be a thorn in the side of the Germans, using his "goon-baiting" tactic. Eventually, he was sent to the inescapable Colditz and lived there until the end of the war.

A true hero (in the real sense of the word).

For me it has to be William Shakespear, his plays & sonnets send shivers up my spine. I was the only person in my year at school that enjoyed our teachings of Shakespear. My favourite play is Midsommer Night Dream, its such a laugh as well as very tragic in some ways, dependant on how you look at it.
