I probably watched every romantic American film in America: My Best Friend's Wedding, Only You, Never Been Kissed, 50 Dates, A Walk to Remember, Titanic, Ever After, Notting Hill, Annie Hall, Pretty woman, Notebook, Sleepless in Seattle, You Got Mail. Some are good, but I think foreign films beat American films hands down. Movie like Shakespear in Love (England), Amelie (France), and My Sassy Girl (Korean) were amazing because each one was unique. I shown friends these films, and each one always gets them weeping. Anyways, anyone else agrees, watch the film "My Sassy Girl" on youtube.com http://youtube.com/watch?v=-6WAjhr4q2M and then answer.

"A Very Long Engagement" must be seen (Tatou is a main character)

Also the two French films "Jean de Florette" and its sequel, "Manon de Sources" (Manon of the Spring). Manon is the better film, but Jean should be seen for understanding what happened before.

"Lola Rennt" (Run, Lola Run) is a cool late-90s German film with Franka Potente.

French Kiss is a romantic comedy with Meg Ryan which is really funny as well as sweet, but i seriously suggest watching the new Pride and Prejudice since you like Keira Knightly. it's really well done and very touching. i also recommend Chocolat, which has Johnny Depp in it (need i say more?) it is set in France and Juliette Binoche owns a candy store. Much Ado About Nothing is Shakespeare movie, which can be tough language wise, but watch the Kenneth Branaugh version with Emma Thompson. really sweet. if you like English romance movies i recommend going to the BBC store online. BBC produces many romantic british shows and miniseries that are awesome A&E does the same thing. many are period pieces, which i don't know if that would interest you, but check it out. Oh and by the way, Amelie is amazing. great choice! :)

I agree to the fact that most of the best romantic films are not American. But I also think that finding a good one is just as hard. You're just lucky to find 'My Sassy Girl' in youtube. Another suggestion would be 'il mare' a Korean movie. Although it has some pretty adult themes.

you might want to check out "Devdas" - hindi movie based on true story that took place in late 18th century. Here's how the story goes.
The childhood friendship of Devdas (who is from a wealthy family) and Paro (Parvati) (whose family was not as well off) blossoms into love as they grow up. Devdas' father does not approve of the relationship due to difference in their's families status in village and the caste. (Devdas is of the Brahmin caste and Paro of the Merchant caste.)

Devdas realizes he cannot live without Paro and seeks her out, but she has already been married off to an older man with children. Devdas falls into despair and drinks to excess; then he meets a courtesan, Chandramukhi, who falls in love with him and looks after him. During his alcohol-instilled dreams, he frequently dreams of Paro and Chandramukhi. The two women replace each other in his dreams, so it is left unclear, if, in the end, Devdas overcomes his love for Paro and finds some peace by falling in love with Chandramukhi. In the end, however, due to a promise to seek her out when he's on the verge of dying, Devdas travels to Paro and dies in front of her house.
