I am designing a website to sell jewellery and books. I intend to use Pay Pal Buy Now buttons. I have only one of each item to sell. Is there any way the item can be deleted automatically once it has been sold? Would appreciate your comments.

There is no easy way. It's called DHTML (dynamic html) and requires understand of programming such as java or xml scripts. If you want a snazzy e-commerce site you need to pay someone a few hundred bucks to put in the dynamic elements. Trust me it is way too much hassle to try and whip up java code if you are not experienced with that stuff.

Ya you can do this using IPN when a user buys an item Paypal will send a verification request. Your application should validate that request : if the payment is made you update your item as sold in the database. That easy. not sure how to do this

It may be so but you want to have total control of what is deleted from your site. And if you want your site (You) to be successful "one item each" won't do it, get more items and diversify slowly!
