good question. one comment it takes too long here to explain it all. in summary -- everyone's experience is different. i left my original country decades ago and yes I re-visited. the first impression one gets is that "the old country" remains static -- almost with no change. Of course this proves to be false -- and like all over the world "things do change" but at a different space and speed. other impressions -- one re-visits the location of the old home -- most are gone, razed to give way to the urbanization. re. visit to the old school Alma mater is another emotional story. the list is endless. one thing -- keeps creeping back on my mind -- I wish I could go back with powerful financial means and make a significant contribution to the birth place. of course not every one of us becomes bill gates. end of the story.

Let me tell you...the opposit : I was born in New York N.Y. , and
brought to Greece by my -greek- mother, 3 months after. I had
the chance to visit New York city years after, along with my first wife, from Paris (F). At that time I merely spoke any english, but since I did speak Italian we went easily by. I felt as I was back to source and even back to..self! I instantly assumed the US way of
attitude, motion; I even came with unspoken words up on my mouth (much to my surprise), and overall I felt back to the future.
As if my whole beingness started getting in a row and functioning
with all its horse power!!! It was just amazing!!!!
Thank you for this question, mate, it was very welcomed!
Ciao.........John-John.
