I am sorry to say that is not a great time to visit as tourists. Mostly everything except 7-11 will be closed from 23rd at noon until 26th. Your best bet is to go on the internet to find "julebords" at local restaurants, and plan to do a lot of outdoors exploring on foot. If you can find ice clips for your walking boots, they can save you from spending a good portion of your trip in hospital.

Hi!

You're lucky goin to Oslo and Grand Hotel. I actually work there.... how funnny! I'm a pastry chef there, so you wouldn't be seeing me.

Anyway, Oslo can be very cold in desember so bring warm cloths. bring a lot of money to, cause Norway is one of the most expensive countries in the world.

As mentioned by on of the others, we celebrate christmas on the 24 at night. You will find that the city is going to be dead, and everything closed, cause everybody's at home celebrating.

What to do in Oslo? As I've lievd in this city my whole life, I know it very well.

Restaurant you have to visit;

Restaurant Südøst - very nice food in a open kitchen and two big fire places. the place used to be a bank and has a very nice atmospher. Not very expensive.

Ekerberg Restauranten - at this restaurant you've got a view of the entier city. It's beautiful and the food is good too!! A bit more expensive than Südøst, but still ok.

Dinner - a chinees restaurant thats very classy and the food is delicious!!!!! great service and very cheap.

And of course you have to eat at Grand Hotel, where I'll be making you're desserts!!!!

The 26th of desember is a big night out! Don't go to Hard Rock café or Fridays, that you'll find next to you hotel. Try "smuget" or "Åpen Bar". Nice places.

There's a lot of cool things you can do in Oslo with all the snow. My favorite thing is going on a slade down "korketrekkeren" you take the metro to "frognerseteren". You'll find yourself looking out over oslo. from here you can rent a slade and you ride it down to a place called "midtstuen" and from there you take the metro back up and then you slide back down and you can just keep on doing this all day. It's so much fun and a good laught. It's not something tourists do, so you'll be like a Norwegian!

You're hotel is just by the castle and the parlement, so you'll get to se them. You should also go to the Norwegian Folk Museem. It's an outdoor museem with old houses, so it's like walking through an anncient city! you'll also get to taste the tradisional Norwegian "lefse" witch is a sveet flat bread. mmmmm.....

You should also of course visite the Edvard Much museem, where you can see "the scream".

If you like skiing, you should not hesitat. there's a lot of ski slopes to chose from.

If you want to go shopping, you should awoid the street where you're hotel's at. it's much better to go to "bogstad veien". this is where you'll find all the good shops.

now, when you get to Gardermoen Airport Oslo, don't take a taxi to you're hotel, that's way to expensive. Take the Airport expresse train. Go off at "Nationaltheatret" witch is a 2 min. walk from the hotel.

I really hope you'll enjoy you're stay in Oslo, my hometown.
When you get to the hotel, they'll direct you to what metro's and busses you'll need to take to get to all the difference place.

Can't suggest an itinerary but try to see the Northern Lights. With luck, you'll see some spectacular displays.

Visit Oslo city centre, Bergen for Grieg's birthplace, or cruise the fjords on a DFDS boat.
