ohhh I love the keys ! Please realize that NONE of the Key beaches are real wide and many are small with rocks! I would say the Keys are great but understand that the beaches are not these huge, wide sandy things .The water is very beautiful and very light blue though ! The person that advised a beach in "key west" please ask for the name of that "beach" Perhaps DOG BEACH ? or Fort Zack ? On Key Largo there is a John Pennekamp Coral Reef State Park. They offer glass bottom boat ride and snorkling trips out to a reef. I went on the glass bottom tour and it was great. I saw tropical fish and sea turtles and sharks. The park also had a very nice SMALL beach here's their website http://www.floridastateparks.org/pennekamp/default.cfm
Futher down in the key chain please stop at Bahia Honda State Park. There you will find the old seven mile bridge. It's no longer used for traffic but you can walk on it and the views are incredbile! The beach is just ok a few years ago a storm damaged and removed most of the beach. BUT STILL STOP HERE ! Heres the web site http://www.floridastateparks.org/bahiahonda/default.cfmhttp://www.floridastateparks.org/bahiahonda/default.cfm
Now, someone mentioned Key Biscayne .... please note it not part of the key chain but near miami. You take a toll bridge($2.00) to get to it. There is a park there called Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park. It's at the very end of Key Biscayne , I think it has " THE BEACH YOUVE BEEN DREAMING ABOUT" There is a light house right there on the beach and the beach is quite wide , so soft and sandy and the water CLEAR ! Heres the website http://www.floridastateparks.org/capeflorida/default.cfm . Oh Some one mentioned Islamorada if you have time while pasing through stop at Robbies Marina .There you can feed these HUGE Tarpon fish from the pier heres the website http://www.robbies.com/tarpon.htm Anyhow I think one of the best parts of the trip down the keys is the drive... The water is so blue and so close to the road at times. Make sure you visit KEY WEST in the evening , visit Malory Square for the Sunset festiville.Lots of great people watching and there are street performers. Make sure you see Domnic the Cat man! Rent bikes if you have time it's a great way to see everything. ***please see the website trip advisor . On trip advisor there is a message board ( forum) just for the KEYS ! The people there are AMAZINGLY helpful for planning a keys visit here the website http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g34340-i52-Florida_Keys_Florida.html

Please have a great time !

I am not sure which keys you are going to.
Since this question is in the "Miami" area of yahoo answers, I was thinking you could also visit "Key Biscayne".
Crandon Park has snorkeling there, and one of the nicest beaches in the entire Ft.Lauderdale/Miami area is at Bill Baggs Cape Florida Park.

Key Biscayne is situated just off North Miami, so you could do that whole "South Beach Thing" too if this is your first visit to south Florida.

Key Largo is okay. There are some pretty nice beaches there, and it's GREAT for snorkeling. I've never been down as far as Key West, but I hear the beaches there are great.

Key West has beautiful beaches, and there are also a lot of fun things to do there at night time. You can go snorkeling, but i advise you to be careful of the Baracudas, don't wear ANYTHING shiny when you go snorkeling. They are attracted to shiny objects.
