Hi there,

I have a DVD ROM drive on my computer that suddenly stopped working one day. It's a Samsung SD616e in my Dell Dimension 3000.

It is recognized by the compuer, it is saying that it is working properly, but it will not read any discs, CDs DVDs or otherwise.

How can I fix this problem?

I think you need to take it to a computer technician and
have them take a look at it. If it is not reading anything,
you might just have to replace it, or get it repaired, if
it is possible or even worth it. You might want to look
at some of the links I posted before taking it to a computer
technician and having that person look at it. It could be a
problem with your registry as well, and if that's the problem,
it can be readily fixed.

pass to device supervisor and un-deploy the DVD/CD Rom. Reboot and spot if the computer would not see it as new hardware and reinstall it. If it would not, and the hardware remains un-put in, close the computer off, open the case, floor your self and unplug the archives cable from the force. If there is yet another force linked to the comparable archives cable, confirm to place it interior the grasp place. Reboot the computer. After it adjusts for any variations, close down lower back and opposite the technique. Now, the computer ought to re-regulate for the hardware configuration, setting up the excellent drivers it famous. If it would not locate a desirable driving force, pass to the producer's internet site and obtain it from there. I ought to have prefaced this via asking the obtrusive question, 'is that this hardware properly matched such as your working device?'

If your computer is not working properly when it is switched on, there is a hardware problem. Most of these problems can be solved by just opening up the computer and removing the dust. Detailed instructions at http://tinyurl.com/yd34oj
