Go to Start-Control Panel. Now, make sure you are in the classic view, and select the Add/Remove Applet(Program). In the Add/Remove on the left side is a section called "Add/Remove Windows Componants". Click on this and a new window will open with all the Windows Componants. In the window which lists each componant scroll down to the Windows Media Player and take the check mark out of the box in front of it. Then click "Next" and continue to follow the instructions of the Wizard, at the end click "finish" and it will be removed from your system. If you ever want to put it back in, just go in and select the check box and go through the wizard and it will be re-installed. You can remove any of the Windows Componants in this same fashion. You may want to check out what else is available to you there too, and maybe remove other items, like the games which are installed, etc.

Good luck and have a nice day!

go to add or remove programs, then on the left side, click on add or remove windows components. wait a few seconds, and a dialog box opens up. uncheck windows media player, then click next. now its gone! u can also remove other programs like this.
by the way, why do u want to install other media players other than this? this is the light, and default player. if you want to play dvd's, why not just download a free codec?

right here the way you do it. open administration panel, chosen [upload or eliminate classes] then on the left column chosen [upload/eliminate residing house windows elements] between the elements are [residing house windows Media participant] in basic terms unmark it, which will do it, chosen ok.
