My Dr. recommended against drinking soda, but when I was pregnant that was my once a week treat. I would allow myself a soda and bag of cheetos every Sunday. But in my later months I was having to go in for non stress tests once or twice a week, usually on Monday and Thursday. Sometimes I would be hooked up to those machines for a long time if my baby was sleeping because they needed to record her activity levels. The maternity nurses told me to drink a soda pop about 30 minutes before going in so the caffeine would wake up the baby, and they promised me it wouldn't harm my baby, and it didn't. I don't think it is bad for you to have maybe one soda a day, but not any more. I would think that the baby could get addicted to the caffeine if you were drinking a lot of coffee or soda. Plus one person mentioned that sodas are bad for your bones, that person is right. Sodas leech calcium from your bones and can weaken them, and while pregnant the baby is also taking some of your calcium and other vitamins. So be careful, you don't want to end up with weak bones. Congratulations on your pregnancy by the way!

In general Soda is not good for you or the baby, it causes the bones to not hold the calcium it needs as much as the body naturally tries. And depending on the type you consume, and how much, the most it may help cause you to become agitated more easily during the pregnancy because of caffiene and the already flowing hormones in your system. However, during my pregnancy I had a constant craving for mountain dew and Taco Bell and my daughter is a wonderfull and healthy baby of 2 1/2 years. So it really doesn't make a big effect on you or your health as long as it isn't constant consumption (meaning every hour on the hour) for a long period of time. One point of advice though is this, now that you are pregnaunt it is actually a bad idea for you to quit drinking pop. If you are a regular consumer of pop, it will actually cause more troubles to quit drinking it now, so in general just remember to eat as healthy as you can (strange cravings kept in mind) and keep in good spirits. Soda is very bad for babies. Apart from the high sugar content, it affects the absorption of calcium. The sugar will rot your babies teeth and if you give her juice, dilute it half juice and half water and give it to her in a cup. If given in a bottle, the juice pools in her mouth and causes tooth rot aswell. Why not just give her water? Too much soda and juice can take away her appetite and she won't be eating properly too.

if you absolutely must drink soda while you are pregnant, you should switch to a diet, caffiene free version. The sugar alone isn't good for you or baby but large amounts of caffiene can harm your unborn child. According to a lot of pregnancy books, you can get away with drinking the equivalent of one cup of coffee per day...but you should also remember that caffiene is in a lot of things we eat as well...especially chocolate!

The ingredients in soda block the body from taking up calcium. There is also a risk of your developing gestational diabetes with a high sugar intake. Babies born of moms who had gestational diabetes have a higher risk of developing diabetes themselves, as well as the moms have a higher risk of developing type-2 diabetes later in life. So yes, your mom is right.

No shes not overreacting. My sister-in-law just had a baby and she drunk soda alot and her baby is addicted to caffeine because of it and now that have to have a monitor on him and try to get him off it. I know ya dont wanna go thru that. I would be a whole lot safer just to find something else that satisfies u and had no caffiene.

The sweets in soda can harm the child's teeth. Give him cavities and affect his gums at a time when he/she is still growing.
Caffeine from soda can stun the child's growth and will make him/her over active and hyper.

my doc told me that there is nothig the proves caffien is bad for the baby. But he said to be on the safe side limite the caffien to 1 a day. Better safe then sorry. I mean you have to think to, it also dehidrates(Sp?) you. And if it does that to you, it dosnt make your body a totaly great place for your growing baby. Good luck!! :-)
