Read the bible every day, believe me, it works. Not instantly, but in no too long term either.

Disease? The need of instant gratification is not a disease, it is the result of a fear of experiencing even a low level of disappointment.

The tendency to give in to impulses comes from having liberal-type personality parents who did not want to frustrate their children... that is, did not want to be seen as a "bad" person.


The child that screams in a public place is manipulating his/her parent into exhibiting panic and terror, rather than a swift swat on the butt of the screamer. This liberal-type personality method of raising a child without any limiting "destroying the spontaneity" of the child, teaches the young personality to fear hurt, pain, and disappointment. The result is someone who lacks the power of self control, patience, and peace with wanting but not having.

Consider your childhood, and if any of the above "fits" then you must become your own parent, and begin teaching yourself to be OK with disappointment, and to be OK with wanting something but not getting it.

Not easy to learn as an adult, but one is better for acquiring the skills and patience required for enthusiastic looking and desiring...while acting.... and not instantly becoming attached to owning everything one sees.

it is not a disease. it is training and impulse. i believe frued called it the id. just breathe and try to relax every muscle in youjrbody starting with your toes, and then think about why you want this thing so badly and what are you going to do with it once you have it. will it be great for a week or two then on the next thing? if so pass it by. if this doesnt work we could always try classical conditioning. (lol)

Sounds like a true liberal. Who else would list poor self discipline as a disease rather than a conscience decision to accept the responsibility of ones own action.

The impulses will always be there. Once you have decided to make an effort not to act upon them, then they will come less frequently.

remove from urself anything that make it so you can fullfill your impulses, such as your check book, credit cards, and limit the amount of cash you carry. if you must carry a checkbook, put a reasonable limit on how much you can write a check for. and, dont carry credit cards. they are the bane of a good credit scores existance
