My mother has a daycare and I tell you , people are always trying to shove food in them so young. What's the rush. My mother (apparently) breast fed me for 2 years and I didnt have any food at all (except breast milk) until I was a year old. I seldom was ill, I grew nicely, was happy, thriving..etc etc.

Babies under the age of 6 months do not really need anything besides formula and/or breast milk. If your baby needs to be offered 6 ounces of formula every 3-4 hours that is probably what her body is calling for. Let her eat how much she wants. She will stop eating when she is full. Diluted juice is really not necessary at all, but about 9 months old, 4 ounces a day is OK as part of a meal. 6 months is the recommended age to begin rice cereal, but some babies are ready earlier than that. Between 4-6 months is usual to begin solids. Watch for the signs that she is ready. These include being able to hold her head steady, seems interested in watching you eat, and her "tongue-thrust" reflex is subsiding. The tongue-thrust reflex is what your baby uses when she sucks on the nipple. If you try to give her food on a spoon and she only pushes her tongue against it, this reflex will indicate she isn't quite ready for solids yet. Your pediatrician will be the one to help you with your baby's eating the best, however.

My son started solids (rice cereal and veggies) at 4 months old. The AAP recommends solids once a baby can hold their head and have doubled birth weight. As far as juice, you can start giving that at 6 months but only 4-6 oz. a day. It should be watered down 50% and given in a sippy cup. Good luck!

My pediatrician told me not to give my daughter juice of any kind until about a year old. Something to do with the acid in juice causing diaper rash, from diarrhea and gas. As for rice cereal, 4 to 5 mos is a good age to start.

Babies do not need juice, it just promotes tooth decay and is full of sugar. Formula and water are nutritionally fine. As for rice cereal, depends on the baby. AAP recommends 6 months, but I think 4 or 5 months is fine if your baby needs it.

dont feel like you are feeding her too much , she will let you know if she wants more or doesnt want any more. i started my daughter on cereal at 3 months and watered down juice at 7 months, but i try not to give her juice very often, i dont want her to choose a sugery drink over the formula.

My kids did not get cereal until around 6 months old. I didn't give them juice until they were old enough to drink from a sippy cup. Just follow the doctor's advice.

Most pediatricians suggest you wait until they're six months. your baby is drinking a normal amount for his/her age. Don't start her on cereal and juice, it will upset her stomach. Be patient.
