Maybe get her something she wouldn't be able to by in the Bahamas or something particular to your area... ie... Georgia...famous for peaches, get her some peach preserves and other things made in Georgia... or Wisconsin famous for cheese, get her some cheese curds and other Wisconsin specialties... see where I'm going w/this???

Get her whatever you think your mom would like. Especially since you have never met her. Boys are REALLY bad at this sorta thing. As a newlywed, I am finding this out the hard way. When buy presents for our nieces, an "I don't know" is all I get. Even for his sisters, same answer. If they are from the Bahamas, they are going to be sick of anything that reminds you of the Bahamas. Why not get her something special from where you live? I am sure that she would appreciate it a lot more than a regular gift. For example, I live near Seattle. So for Christmas, I am getting my mom different brands of coffee. (She's from Florida and drinks Maxwell house.) I know because she has never had any other brands of coffee before...because most of these are very local...so I know it's something she'll like. So go to a local pottery or art shop. Pick her up something nice that is one of a kind. Make him go with you so you will have his opinion. Another idea, where I live there is a store that you can paint ceramics. You can paint mugs, plates, etc. If you and your boyfriend painted something together for her...I am sure that she will like it. Originality is key.

Ok, christmas presents are always a boredom until you find the right object especially for moms.
Ask your bf what his mom's hobbies are and try to get her something related to. for example; books or crafts. some costume jewellery would be lovely or a handbag would do as well.
Prepare also a nice box of chocolates and some fresh flowers to present on their arrival.
Think of anything that you would love to be greeted with should the situation had been the opposite. In this way you can never go wrong.

May I suggest Traveler's Checks? This in a pretty card would be a nice gift.
Remember, she is going to be traveling and anything you buy, might cause questions, at customs, when she returns home. Fees, etc.
If you give her Travelers Checks, she can enjoy shopping in the USA with them.
If this seems impersonal, just think of all the gifts you have received that you never used. ;.)

Research her favorite restauraunt in her area...and buy her some gift certificate's. The internet should be able to assist you. You could call them and pay by phone. You have lots of time to prepare. SHould be fairly easy.
