Get a Photobucket account for any images you want to put up...
http://www.photobucket.com/
Its all done by sticking codes in the text windows on the 'edit profile' page.
To change the background color you use a code like this...

< style type = "text/css">
body
{background-color: 000000;}
< /style>

(Use html color codes...
http://www.echoecho.com/htmlhexcolors07.htm )
For a regular background image put in a code like this...

< style type= " text/css">
body{background-image : url("http :// i82.photobucket.com /albums / j000/ account/ stars_bg. gif");}
< /style>

To put a picture in one of the sections, you use a code like this...

< img src= " http :// i82.photobucket. com / albums / j000 / account / picture.jpg" width ="360" height = "240" >

(Get the size of the image from the pictures file on your computer or by opening it in paint and checking under Image > Attributes)
Everything is discussed in the MySpace Forums under 'MySpace - Customizing' They talk about all the different websites that have MySpace codes and give tips on everything from putting up videos to page layouts and custom code generators for your 'Friends' section. Keep going back and trying different things. It takes a while.
