What do ppl think about minor ops being done at their GPs surgery. What about infection rates? and is this as bad as giving a first responder a scalpel,I know for a fact about Drs having to go back to school to be taught basic life support,Also surgeons at the scene of accidents who dont have a clue without the A&E dept around them,I have 35yrs a&e experience and the idea that has come from HM Gov scares the hell out of me,Comments Please?

Its not right and not fair on the GP or th patient. My husbands GP attempted to remove a growth on his shoulder which was like a cyst in the muscle. The GP opened it up - told my husband he couldnt do it and closed the cut. My husband went through weeks of worry thinking it was cancer and thats why the GP didnt do anything. Eventually he was seen by a proper surgeon who did the op with no problems. The surgeons comment regarding the GP was 'Incompetant decision - Incompatent Incision - he advised my husband to change doctors.

GPs can only undertake minor surgery if they're qualified to do so. As for Drs having to go back to school to be taught basic life support - everyone who has direct contact with patients in the NHS has to do this every year as part of their mandatory training. This is because guidelines change and all staff need to be updated regularly. I'm not really sure what your question is about - first you talk about GPs doing minor ops, then onto BLS then to accident scenes?

Just read your update - where on earth are you getting your information from? A GP could not possibly do a hernia repair or an appendicectomy - these are operations that need to be done in an operating theatre. In what role were your 35 years of A&E experience if you don't mind me asking?

I'm not sure what my local GPs actually do as its the practice nurses whom seem to do most of the day to day stuff. I rather suspect they would baulk at the idea of having to do more work and in an area they only remotely remember from their student days. I'm a sinic I know!

I personally dont think GPs should be doing anything like this in their offices. They can hardly help you with a cold, why would you let them do minor surgery? Good lord....GPs dont know much about anything, I wouldnt trust them.

I think there's more risk of cross infection at the hospitals.

The main problems seem to be the cost and time of training the doctors and the delays this will cause to there seeing other patients.

I can't see this working

if u r scared see a homeopath, u should not have a minor op if ur scared

do not eat yeast bread or drink beer as the yeast really f**** up the human mind and body (confusion, fungus etcetcetc) the olive helps to kill it
