At first I experienced a lot of anti-european prejudice from americans on the web. The whole thing with France was ridiculous, how it seemed to be encouraged by the media and how no one thought to question the rhetoric. The US looks through its nose down at Europe, but a great deal of them haven't even got passports.
That's not to say I hate the country. When I stayed there the people were great and really friendly up first hand. So as a people they're wonderful - at times much friendlier than much of spain, france, portugal, germany I have to say (and whatever new countries want to join the EU). It's such an optimistic world there.
It's not so much the criticsm of 'non-americans' (sorry but that is such a bad term) but just the general off-hand shrug we-dont-care. It's a horrible way to treat your neighbours, just ignoring them until you need to ask a favour until there 'of use to you'. I think that's the biggest bone.

Your point is well made, regarding non-Americans criticizing American policies, however, I have some criticisms for non-Americans:
1. Radical Islamic Terrorism
2. N.Korean dictator 'lil kim
3. Anyone even speaking of giving nukes to Iran
4. France, for being such a great "ally."

If somone critices you, you generally criticise back. I don't really see the point, unless you're just desperate to stir up trouble between Americans and 'non Americans' as you so charmingly call us. Hopefully people will see through it. Grow up. Hope you enjoyed the criticism you were basically begging for.

Americans are some of the most egocentric people around. Most Americans criticize all non-Americans. They don't understand other cultures or belief systems and assume that they are substandard to the way Americans live. Have you never heard the jokes about France being cowards, Canadians being up to something, all Muslims being evil, all the people from Iran, Iraq and Pakistan being terrorists? Please, open your eyes.

I think you are a little out of touch if you think that Americans don't criticize non-Americans. Right now the world is watching us and we are in Iraq and Bush is refusing to leave. He was actually overheard saying that he won't leave Iraq even if only his wife and dog are supporting him. Not to mention our illegal aliens politics right now. We are criticized because of our president's politics and the fact that the rest of the world assumes that we all support him. And don't forget all the bigoted, racist idiots living in our country as well.

People from powerful/dominant nations are more vulnerable to criticism because everyone else is watching them.

We're really too self-involved to care what other nations do. We also have a poor sense of world history or even our own history for that matter.
Its also a question of place in the world right now, when we sneeze the world catches a cold.
