all 3 very deficient LBs...Singeltary,and Butkus are over all better than Urlacher . but if i had to chose 1 it would be SINGELKUS... like the name ! butkus was a very hard a physical player and he played back when they went both was and one of the most dominate players ever to play the game .....Singeltary ,man he change the LB position as we know it today .(as well as l.Taylor)Singeltary was fast, mean, raw and his eyes ,when u mention Singeltary i think of eyes because it showed intensity.....Urlacher will never be in the same realm as them but wining a S.B. might help....

What a great group of linebackers to have representing your club, eh?

While Singletary and Urlacher were ( are ) two of the greats, Butkus has to be the best of the three. This guy was a madman on the field. He literally scared people. he changed the way opposing offensive players played their games. Nobody wanted to run at Butkus, and they damn sure didn't want to catch a ball in his territory. A whole lot of balls were dropped because receivers didn't want to stretch out for a ball in Butkus's territory.

Urlacher is absolutely a great leader and one of the best linebackers in the game today. He also has the benefit of an amazing defensive line making his job a lot easier. Singletary was one of the greatest students of the game at the position... he'd study everything and knew exactly what the offense was plannign to do, and was especially effective in Buddy Ryan's 46 defense, '85 was probably the greatest defense in the history of the game.
In the end, I'd have to say Butkus because he simply personified Chicago football and helpled to bring glory back to Chicago in 1963. He revolutionized the position, and was the epitome of the Moster's of the Midway. Other teams literally had to change their game plans going into a week against the Bears to compensate for him. He was one of the most feared men in the league, that's the kind of bloody, hard-nosed football Chicago will always be known for. Butkus said it best, "I wouldn't ever set out to hurt anyone deliberately unless it was, you know, important —like a league game or something."

Butkus

Butkus was a monster, for sure...Singletary was very, very intimidating. Both of those guys you had to gameplan for. Urlacher is solid, and maybe he will be in the same group...but...the Bears defense as a whole is the monster, now. Lovie Smith has done wonders. Lol

PS - Any football guy older then me would say Sam Huff from the Giants, too. He was fast like the linebackers of today...also...no one mentioned L. Taylor, Carl Banks, Romonowski, Derrick Brooks...

Butkus, without a doubt.
Would also have to rate Randy Gradishar very close to the top.

This is what Butkus said in an interview years ago.
"I love to hit a guy so hard that he lays on the ground with snot bubbling out of his nose and his eyes are rolled back in his head. I don't get to do it that often, but when I do, it makes me feel good and want to do it again. It's like having sex."

Butkus was the best MLB, ever. Singletary was one of the best all time but not THE best. Urlacher is still too young to tell.

somebody who isn't even interior the NFL yet, it is not as though Urlacher got here alongside ideal after Singletary retired or Singletary got here alongside ideal after Butkus. there replaced right into a pair of 10 year hollow between Butkus and Singletary as there replaced into between Singletary and Urlacher.

Urlacher, because he is what is happening right now...Singeltary....definately helped them win a Superbowl, but.........Overall, Butkus, because he was just a MONSTER...especially in his time.
