You need to call in proffesionals for a quote. You can demolish it yourself but disposing of it is a nightmare to do legally. Best left to a company.

Asbestos Garage Removal Cost

2016-11-16 17:25:43 · answer #2 · answered by Anonymous · 0 0

As an asbestos specialist I have to totally disagree with some of the costings provided within other anwsers.

A single garage completly made from asbestos should cost no more than £800 and take nearly a full day to complete by a fully licensed contractor, so therefore a double garage (length or width) should be no more than £1600 (£1800 max) depending on your location. The largest part of the fee is the waste disposal for the contractor who also must be a licensed waste carrier (ask for a copy of their licences and waste transfer note on completion, so that you know it has been tipped legally. The waste disposal is currently running at roughly £120 per tonne with a minimum 2 tonnes charge. The most cost effective way is to remove the garage yourself, providing you obtain the correct protective workwear, which can be bought from B & Q for a total of £50-£70. With regards to self disposal, then contact your local authority to find the nearest asbestos skip for home owners, but be warned they will only let you take max 4 sheets. They cannot charge you for disposal by law. You could comprimise and remove the garage yourself and have an asbestos waste disposal service collect the waste for you. This should cost no more than £700 + your time as well in removing it.

More importantly please check that it is asbestos. Asbestos cement (containing white asbestos (chrysotile) normally has a grey mottled effect. you can find examples on the net.

Good Luck.

What, the WHOLE GARAGE is asbestos?

It'll cost you a LOT to get rid of such a thing, it is a specialist job that only a contractor can do.

First , make sure it actually IS asbestos because many times people think it's asbestos then it turns out it isn't.

Better prepare yourself for a shock if you decide to have it removed. I'd guess 3000 to 5000 english pounds. Easily.

Why not leave well alone? It's not doing any harm as it is. Asbestos - if it IS asbestos- is only a hazard if you messs with it.

Roughly how much does it cost to remove an asbestos garage (double length)?

Recently, a friend was diagnosed with mesothelioma (a cancer related to asbestos). Both of her parents and one sister have died from this disease. An investigator is being sent by the state to the house in New Jersey that she grew up in.

It is called abatement--removing asbestos. Try a search online using this term. Hiring an out-of-town company may be cheaper than hiring a local company.

I work in a school and last Saturday an independent contractor came in to do an 11 hours job just to drilled some holes on asbestos door to put a panic bar, I saw that they get paid for $2,300 for it. I wonder why not just put a new door which will cost less. I guess they will cost much more just to dispose that asbestos door.

Well now that depends on you, you could demolish it yourself, & dispose of it in one simple way, if you need to lay a base for something ie, patio, conservatory or just a new garage, then put it in the base as hordcore, that way it costs nothing to pull down & dispose of

Call these guys, I think it depends on how the asbestos is fastened. If it is screwed in it is cheaper than if it is stuck on or built into the wall.
