My computer shuts its self off every so often. And about a week ago, I turned it on, and the icons weren't on the desktop, plus the Start bar wouldn't show up. It's still like that. What's wrong with my computer???

what kind of desktop do you have? you should try calling the company or looking into their website for help. if the computer is real bad or got infected.or you can try going back to the restartng point. at this point the computer will be good as new as when you first purchased it. except you will loose all the files and stuff that you added afterwards

Hopefully you have essential security software on your pc. They are antivirus, antispyware, and a firewall, and you keep them updated.
Apart from it you should get one registry cleaning software.
Run all the above softwares and see if they can detect any unwanted virus etc.
If nothing else works. Then the first thing to do is make a copy of all your text files, images, songs, video, favourites etc. that you want to save, on cds/dvds.
After it you should consider to format your hard disk and reinstall windows and all other softwares. It is the sureshot method of getting rid of any and all software related problems.
