to answer correctly i need to know what kind u have, so i'll answer for both. do not feed dwarfs fruit as they are prone to diabetes but syrians love it. no citrus for either type. veggies are fine for both. most any veggie, but avoid iceberg lettuce as it is too watery and can cause diarrhea. small quantities is the key to any veggie--about a 1/2 inch piece at a time. no more than once a day. mine love broccoli and carrots best.

dwarfs should avoid these foods:
almonds
celery
garlic (very poisonous to Hamsters)
potato tops
rhubarb
tomato
raisins (can get lodged in cheek pouches)
hamster food and snacks containing molasses, honey, sugar, fruit sugar, or other sweet stuff.

I used to give my hamster raw baby carrots ... they like the sweetness of a carrot. I also gave him sliced apple, honey sticks ... which can be purchased where pet supplies are sold, and really small cheese chunks. His favorite treats were popcorn or Ritz bits (cheese or peanut butter in the middle) ... but I'd only give him one each of these per day. I don't know what they're not allowed to eat ... I never inquired about anything else, as he was usually very content with what I was feeding him. Always make sure he's eating his seed feed ... if you find he's not eating as much as he should, cut back on his treats a bit.

Good luck to you and your new pet ... enjoy!!

sunflower seeds, carrots, parsley, apple, unsalted crackers, pine nuts, very small portions of grapes (high in sugar) and dried fruits.

NO DAIRY and you want to watch out with fruits (that's why I listed dried fruits) because fruit has high water content which can give them wettail.

Mostly what they like. I have given them carrots and fruits. Sometimes raw peanuts, I shell them and remove the red skin stuff.
