Hi,

Most companies use customer information, for confirming and sending out orders initially. If you have filled in a form with details on their website, it is likely that the information will be stored in a database on the company's servers and if you have agreed that they can contact you regarding promotions, special deals - they will use the information eg as a minimum your email address - to send information about deals etc to you.

They may also use this information to improve their customer service, get ideas for developing new products and services, or entering new markets in new locations.

Most companies should have a privacy policy and data protection policy details on their website - probably in the disclaimer/terms and conditions - which should give details about what information they will collect and what they will do with it...often you see things like...we will share this information with relevant third parties if you have consented to this...something like that.

Third parties may be other companies selling complementary products who want to target new customers. When information about customers is passed on, it is usually for marketing purposes. A new company might want to get an idea of who their potential customers are - what are their preferences, what are their geographic locations etc

Depending on the country, companies can be required by a court of law to pass on information if required as evidence.
