If you want to be radical do what people did in the 50s and not what they did in the 90's. Be the parent, not a friend. Correct and reward and maitain authority. They will be there "own person" later on. Teach them how to find out who their "own person" really is.

pretend it is the 19th centuary and use bruit force ,that is the only way to deal with these pricks any more.

lock them in a room until they can behave. Skip meals if they dont behave. Tell them to recite over and over again " I will behave".

more discipline, less freedom. Kids today have way too much control and they need boundaries. they want them. they don't ask for them. they reject them, but they really want them

give them all your love and trust-befriend them-but tell them their limits in a friendly way.
