Have you listened to yourself? If you were truly tolerant, you wouldn't be forcing anybody to do anything. People have every right to have their own opinions - racist ones, anti-gay ones, good ones, bad ones. It makes you a bad person if you try to make a person more ANYTHING. You are not the thought police. If your position is so correct, then argue from logic.

Sorry, but you can't "make" anyone do anything they don't want to. Ethical to try to educate them. I prefer the word acceptace, not tolerant. Tolerance is to me just putting up with something and not fully embracing it in acceptance. There is a difference.

I find nothing wrong with giving a person 'food for thought'; however, I do see an issue with preaching. It's a fine line. I find that a good way to keep from crossing that line is to think of yourself in the other person's shoes. If they said the opposite of your arguement to you (in orther words, if they tried to tell you about the 'merits' of intolerance), would you be angry or offended?

No reason to tolerate intolerance.
However, some people will never change and have the amazing ability to actually make you change i.e. you may not even realize it but before long, you've become as intolerant as they out of exasperation in trying to change them.

Yes. They have learned from somewhere to be intolerant, and without intervention of some kind, they will remain that way. I definitely think it is everyone's responsibility to enlighten the ignorant and intolerance is just a form of ignorance. Don't be pushy, just present the facts I suppose... or live by example. The truth is on your side, so ultimately you will be right.

You can try but it'll take years and most people are not patient enough. I really just depends of the intellegence of the intolerant individual.
