An enzyme cleaner from the local parts store or the pet store for urine and animal stains will remove the diesel fuel. I have spilled some in my own vehicle and this was effective in removing every trace of the spill. The enzymes in the cleaner foam up only on areas that are stained, and you simply scrub with a brush and wipe off with a damp cloth. The diesel fuel comes right out.

try using an orange peel cleaner. available at wal-mart or auto zone. its a hand cleaner but it will do the trick. we use it in the asphalt business. gets rid of the oil and diesel smell. i would test it first to make sure it doesnt ruin the carpet.
good luck
