My daughter, 11mths, just had her first ear infection a few weeks ago. It was terrible, she was soooo sad looking. After just a few days of the medecine the Dr prescribed she was doing much much better! But, I found the best thing for her was to be right with me, constantly giving her hugs and kisses.

Well, to brighten up my daughter I decided to give her a special dessert. She'd never tried chocolate before, and there is a chocolate flavored dessert that they make here (France) for babies over 6mths. I wasnt planning on giving chocolate until a bit later (and then sparingly of course!!) but she felt so terrible I thought I should do something special. Plus she wasnt eating hardly anything at all she felt so bad. The first taste of this dessert she tried, she got a big smile on her face and opened up for more! Ahh, too cute. She only ate half the portion as she really didnt feel like eating anything. You could try something like that with your girl, something new.

The fever can be from the ear infection. Try giving her motrin or tylenol and maybe using a warm compress on the ear. The recomendation now is that you try to let the ear infection clear up without antibiotics...research has shown that they will usually clear up on their own. But if it isnt better in 48 hours or dramatically worse before then call you doctor..she may need a stronger antibiotic.

Both can help with the ear infection. The fever is most likely from the infection. She needs to get a lot of rest and give her liquids in a cup that is easy to drink from because the pressure caused by sucking will hurt her ears.

Make sure you give her the medicine the doctor prescribed for as long as he told you too otherwise the infection might come back.
Things to distract her will help. You could also try a warm, wet bathcloth laid over the ear. It helps alleviate the pain for a little while. Make sure the water you wet the clothe with is comfortable to the inside of your wrist and wring the cloth out well to keep it from dripping. It will only stay warm for about 5 minutes before you have to wet it again but it does help.

if it is an ear infection that she has had for a while, then yes give her the antibiotic. But if she has only had the ear infection for a few days, then I would wait to see if it clears up on its own. Doctors always prescribe antibiotics, and we don't need them. We can develop an immunity to antibiotics and we don't need them for all illness.
Pain medication only if she is in pain, unless it is also a fever reducer.

My son just had his first ear infection last week. It was bad. Our doctor told us to make sure that we keep him upright as much as possible because when you lay them down it increases the pressure in their ears. The antibiotics knocked it right out and 4 days later he is much better. She also told us to alternate the Motrin and Tylenol for the fever. Good luck!!!

If the doctor prescribed an antibiotic for your one year old and she develops a fever, you better take her back to the doctor. It is entirely possible that she may be having a reaction to the antibiotic.

yeah they can help but are not always neccesary so if your doctor prescribed it i would take it. Prop your daughter up and get her some books and some yummy drinks then let her rest. Should only take a few days for her to feel better.

~~~its pretty common with babies to get ear infections,,,as long as your baby has been prescribed the medication by her Dr. that should help her get better,,,,,snuggle with her,,,read books,,,any quiet time that is comforting will help her feel better also,,,,,
