I've always used Norton, but I'm told more than one security system bogs down the DSL. Is there any way to check to see exactly what security is on this machine?

A friend of mine did just what you plan on -- renewing Norton. WRONG. All he had was problems. He couldn't delete it either! Finally gave up and threatened to use a sledge hammer on his machine -- 2 yr. old XP with DSL. I took it and worked lots of hours on it and finally get rid of Norton renew and cured all the problems. Please look in to another system.

Good Luck!!

Depending on how safe you surf, these work extreemly well

By installing the hosts file, IE-SPYADs, SiteAdvisor and WinPatrol,
you will have a pretty good line of defense which won't use up any resources.
this is the link you reqire for the apps http://temerc.com/hddncounttuts.html......

for anti virus use http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1

And of course a firewall is a must,
tho the XP SP 2 firewall is not sufficient in my opinion.
It only blocks incoming attacks, and should something get thru and that's always possible,
then it can call out to get more things installed or use your machine as a zombie
I'd recommend Zone Alarm, but one of the older versions from here:

Either of the 4.5 versions seem to work best, less buggy than current ones

i have all the installers saved on disc if you would like them e mail me

In my experience, manufacturers usually use a mainstream security package. (McAfee, Norton)

ISP provided security is less robust, and often only works if you are using their propietary browser.

To see what soiftware is on your machine, download the Belarc Advisor. It's free for personal use, and will tell you more than you ever wanted to know about your computer.

Don't do it! Go with anyone but Norton. Their tech help is absolutely horrible and they cost me almost $500 to get my information retrieved from the hard drive!
