Okay, so I really want to move to a new city. I would love some suggestions of cool places to live. Right now Im considering Seattle, Portland and Austin, Texas. I'm in my 20s and am just looking for a change of pace from life in Virginia. Any fun cities that I should check out? I want to stay from Jan. 1st to at least the beginning of the summer (before grad school in the fall). Thanks! Im actually putting this on an Austin page so the answers might be biased :)

Hehe. Thanks 0976. Im definitely moving somewhere at the end of the year. Just haven't really decided where yet. My job ends at Christmas and I want to live somewhere a little more exciting than a town of 5,000 in Virginia. I need a new adventure :)

Well, I'd tell you here, but guess that's what happened in the 90's and sparked such a massive amount of growth that all of us natives wanted was to tell people to leave, and for everyone who'd moved here to stop telling all their friends about how great the weather is, especially in the winter, because it does NOT snow here but stays in the mountains for the most part! So in January you can golf in the morning and ski in the afternoons!!

So you're going to choose wherever you're going to choose, regardless of what others say!

Go with your instincts is what I say because I've moved from here to another state without knowing a single person, from there to Chicago, again without knowing ANYONE, then moved back here and the only thought that passes through my mind right now as to where I'd move is Hawaii...so here's a deterent for you from moving HERE....a recent survey indicates that HERE is the 8th most expensive city in the US-that's all 50 states, not merely the 48 contiguous ones. Even at this time more expensive that HNL!!! So that's what I consider these days, Hawaii, and why not? Otherwise, I'm too old to feel this old....if I were younger I could handle it better...!!!

Good luck!! Just have fun and enjoy your youth while you have it, that's what I did and regret not one day of it!!

Austin is great for anyone its a big collage town, great live music capital of the world, large hike-n-bike trails and you can travel by car to Dallas, Houston the coast or Mexico in 4 to 6 hour.

Bad part is the traffic and if you have allergies.

Stay where you are, you will just move out and after a while realize you made a mistake and go back.

Unless you really hate that city, but Portland is a poor city, to many homeless

I was going to do the same when I graduated college (UGA - GO DAWGS). Then I heard a song by Beth Hart, 'LA Song' and reconsidered. I wanted to get away but realized that it would indeed be 'a different place but the same old thing.' Re-assess why you want to go somewhere, what you would be leaving behind, what you are looking to find and how much this excursion will cost you...

hey,

Moving to a new city depends a lot on what you are expecting from it.

IF its just for change, Austin might be a good bet.
