I have had acrylic nails and fills for more than 10 years. I got so busy, I just can't go every two weeks to maintain them. So, I had them removed and want to try to grow my real nails back. My nails are paper thin now, and have nicks and ridges...they look horrible. I need help. Has anyone successfully done this? What products do you recommend?

I would recomend putting on "Sally Hanson Hard as Nails" polish. It is a clear polish that hardens nails. Make sure you are taking vitamins!!! Those help out your nails ALOT! There are even vitamins that you can buy that are made especially for your nails, hair, etc. I would also remomend after they start comming around to get a regular manicure. Also, you can call up the nail salon and ask them what they think.

If you want to make your nails look the best that they possibly can before they grow out, go get a manicure and they will sand and buff the tops of your nails to make them smooth. Then about every other day or so you will have to polish them with nail hardener and polish. I mean, remove polish and re-polish each time. It is a real pain.

But ultimately you will just have to endure it for the next six weeks or so until they grow out. You could also try press on nails in the mean time, but I personally hate those. Good for you for getting rid of the nails though. Just be patient and your nails will grow out nicely...

My sister discovered something that seems to really make my nails grow faster:

At the end of your shower, grab the wet washcloth and gently push back the cuticles. This seems to stimulate the nails to grow. I don't know if it'll help with the ridges, but maybe it will push the damaged nail forward so you can clip it off gradually.

Good luck!

Once the part that is currently exposed grows out, you will have your own, natural, undamaged nails back. but until then, there's not much you can do to fix the current damage, not completely anyway. just keep them as neat as you can, use a buffer to smooth them out a bit... some clear fortified polish to cover and protect them, and perhaps a nail/cuticle cream to rub into them.
good luck.

You will just have to paint them, and wait for the old thin stuff to grow out, and be replaced by a new smooth nail.

time is about the only true thing that helps. if you can find a clear polish that has formaldehyde(embalming fluid) in it this will help too. keep you nails short and filed until they get back to normal. it took mine about 6 months
