I've put copper wire in the fire of a bunsen burner until it is black and glows red. When I take it out and scrape it, the red and black returns to the original copper colour. Do you know what type of chemical reaction this is? (double displacement, single displacement, synthesis, or decomposition)

Cu + O2 = CuO

This would be a synthesis reaction.

It is an oxidation reaction, forming black copper oxide

You have synthesised black copper(II) oxide from its elements.

2Cu + O2 --> 2CuO
