Mine, hands down, was Mega Man. How does it get any better than going through a robot master's obstacle course and then confronting him in his garage? Plus, the games had some of the best musical compositions.

Mega Man sometimes seems like its the most underrated game series to hit the NES. It is hands down the most successful and my personal favorite game series on the NES for several reasons. Not only did it have some of the best musical compositions (II and III especially) that are the main musical obsession of numerous musicians even today, but the idea and storyline started simple and just grew to be such a masterpiece. Mario only came out with 3 games bearing just the name Mario Bros. Zelda had 2 or 3. Mega Man had 6. SIX GAMES!!! Talk about having such a height of a demand that a series needed to be extended that far within the time that the NES was the primary platform for games.
It has to be one of the most successful game series on the NES and is my personal favorite.

Mario, of course! Super Mario Bros. filled me with shock and awe the first time I saw it. (I cut my teeth on the Atari 2600) Super Mario 2 was funny, and foreign, but a great game and I remember skipping school one day and the truant officer from the school came to visit and caught me playing it. By the time Super Mario 3 came out, I was a Nintendo Fangirl for life. Every weekend my friends would stay over and we would take turns playing it into the wee hours.

Mega Man was OK, but I really liked the Castlevania series.

There was two that I liked.
The zelda series
the gargoyle series
and the mario series.
opps that's three...but still I like them.
