u can do couple of things
Defrag ur c drive.
Stop all the unnecessary programes which runs on startup...
Try to keep ur C drive empty as much as possible
Do not temper with any windows relted file (.dll types)
Always keep a spyware software installed and keep it updated
Never ignore any error msg u recieve,Try to find out what cause that error and resolve it.

Running Disk Cleanup and Disk Defragment on a hard drive are fine but they do little to improve hard drive performance. You can try the free Cacheman software utility. Here is a description written by the developers.
"Cacheman is a utility which tweaks the Disk Cache settings and prevents frequent swapping of the data to hard drive resulting in an improved performance, system reaction time, and stability. Besides this Cacheman corrects also generic problems on systems with more than 512MB of RAM." -- outertechnology.com

Once you have it installed, go to menu bar > Show Wizard > All

Defrag often. Keep data on drive to under 50%. I move all pictures, music and movies on CDs now because I didn't defrag often enuf at first. So my disk won't fully defrag. Learned the hard way.
