My 4-month-old already has two teeth. She has always sucked on her fingers but now that her teeth are in the ped. is telling me to get her to stop doing this because it can harm the development of her new teeth as well as the ones that she already has. I have tried keeping them out of her mouth and giving her a binky but she just screams until I finally give up. I have heard about something that you put on childrens fingersthat tastes bad, to get them to stop bitting there nails and I was wondering if it was safe and it anyone else has had this problem. What did you do about it? I am desperate. I want my baby girl to have a gorgeous smile!

My daughter was born with a blister on her lip from sucking her thumb in the womb. your baby has prol been sucking her fingers for as long as she could...Dont stress about it... and dont put nasty stuff on her little fingers. She will prol need braces as a teenager anyway so it really doesnt matter. My daughter needed braces, but it wasnt becuase she sucked her thumb. When she gets to be a few years older, discourage it, or let her do it only at bed time or something. Trust me, as she gets older you will have bigger battles to deal with, let this one pass.

Perhaps it's best if you consider her an advanced member of the braces club. I sucked my fingers, my sister sucker her thumb. 2 of my children sucked thumbs; 2 have pacis. It was too hard for me to break their habits and take away their comfort. (Ask me again when all 4 have been thru braces! :-)

I wouldn't worry too much about it. My daughter sucked her finger and she has beautiful teeth.
