There are healthy and unhealthy weights, above and below an individuals' ideal. Most girls - and boys - trying to be a size eight are not at a healthy level.

Normal as defined by the press....... well sizes 6 and 8 are obviously required by fashion designers to show off their fabrics, but no way is this normal.

UK average is a 14, but this is not normal. Obese is not normal. What is normal?

Your healthy weight IS dependant on sex, age and height combined.

Some people at size 8 ARE too thin, considering their height, some people fit a size 8 well.

Me at a size 8 is far too thin, but a 10-12 is just a perfect size. UK

Granted, there are those whose weight is tied with emotional issues that also make them angry at the whole world. And, it's easier to say "I'm just healthy" or "They're not healthy" than it is to get into shape. And some large people love being large, since it enables to be domineering.

However....

Let me ask the counter-question: Why do many size 8 women make catty comments about "bigger" women? Why do girls snicker about "larger" girls as they pass by?

First of all, I suspect that you've never been cursed with a body that gains 10 pounds with every fry you eat. Many of them are in that situation. You'd be grumpy too if you never got to eat until you were full.

Second, there is always some size 8 ditz, who fishes for compliments by saying, "I'm getting sooooo fat....". Such women need to be killed in a long, slow death. Okay, just kidding, but they are being VERY cruel.

Third, you and I both know women who do unhealthy things just to stay size 2 (or 0, or whatever). They are indeed unhealthy, and quite frankly, don't look healthy and therefore are NOT attractive.

Fourth, the last I checked, the average size of a woman in the USA is size 12. While the term "normal" is vague, you certainly are "under the average."

Signed... a guy.

No I do not think a size 12 and up necessarily means someone is fat. I am 5'11, wear a size 14, run 3 miles-4 times a week. My BMI is 26 which is completely normal. I am perfectly in my weight category I am just very tall and curvy and athletic. I have played sports and ran all my life and no one has ever considered me fat and I have never considered myself fat. I actually used to be bulimic and anorexic when I was in my teen years and wore a size 6/8 (which I am not saying is tiny, but for me at almost 6 feet tall I was very unhealthy and actually ended up in the hospital with electrolyte imbalances).... I'd say that if I posted a pic up of me, not one person could honestly say I looked fat....

Sorry you had to deal with these attitudes, I don't think a size 8 is too skinny. I'm a size 12 and I think maybe a size 6 is bit skinny and a size 4....well that goes without saying lol. Just be grateful you are thin and a good size. Take care : )

Good for you! :)

I'm quite big myself (size 16, which is apparently the 'average' size for women in the UK these days, but even I find that a bit dubious ¬_¬) and I know I could never be a size 8. It would be unhealthy for my body type (I'm big boned and broad shouldered), and would look scrawny as a size 8.

Other girls are naturally petite; some even wish they were bigger because people rip on how skinny they are.

Be proud of who you are! :D

Something else to consider...they say that sizes have changed over the years, so women are getting larger overall, but their size goes down or stays the same...in reality, the sizes today are giving people a false sense of what size they really are...what they SHOULD do it let us buy pants like men with waist and length numbers.

Listen i am a big girl so am i not "normal"??? I am not jealous at all actually most of my friends are thin. They don't judge me so why should i judge them or anyone else for that matter? You need to get over yourself......If you think you are normal why are you worrying? Enjoy being the size you are!!

Why do you think! Awe i feel really so sorry for you. NOT! There are huge pressures on girls to be size 6 or size 8 and for many peolpe this does not come naturally or easily to them, if at all. Have a heart and show some empathy!!!!

Don't Worry!

Although I don't have any girlfriends or anything, I personally think that bigger women tend to portray themselves better than thin or normal sized women in my opinion.

But I think size 0 is extraordinarily thin.

I think that women in general are self-concious about their bodies, and any comment (too fat, too thin) are taken to heart because of this self-conciousness. Why else would it be that women spend billions per year on beauty products half of which don't do anything?
