I've had tons of experience with my old, long long haired mixed reed cat Cassie she shed a lot what to do:
1. start giving your cat brushes daily either outside or somewere very easy to clean
2. Your couch should have zippers on each cushion take them of and wash them
3. Put them back on after there wash
4. Do this weekly or when you do your laundry countinue brushing your cat

Hi
With the long cat hair you should be able to just vacuum weekly. Now for the cleaning of the sofa.
Some microsuede you can clean with a steam cleaner or spot clean.
You will need to do a test on the fabric to see if you can clean it. Be careful with what product you uses (neutral PH carpet cleaning solution is good)
First you will need to do is a test. To do the test spray the cleaner, using the back edge of the cushion spray a spot about the size of a quarter and wipe it with a white towel and let it dry on it’s own.
If you get colour transfer onto the towel it is not safe to clean.
If there is no change in colour and no watermark then it is safe to clean or spot clean.
If there is a watermark but no colour change it is safe to clean only thing is you will need to clean the whole thing.( to stop watermarks) you can not spot clean.
If you decide to clean it DO NOT do a lot of scrubbing on the fabric because you can damage the hair that is on the fabric.
If you decide to spot clean only you can use a hair dryer to speed up the drying (less chance of leaving a watermark).
If you clean the whole sofa you are probably best to set up a fan to help dry the sofa.
Hope this helps

I brush my long haired cat everyday, sometimes twice a day. I have very little shedding on the microfiber furniture. Fur comes right off of it anyway. It doesn't stick.

I had a trusty old Kenmore vacuum cleaner from Sears that had a special attachment for cleaning upholstery -- it had a rotating brush, just like the main part, and was FANTASTIC for getting cat hair off of everything (I even used it on my black clothes ;-)
About how you keep the cat from sharpening its claws on the microfiber couches . . . I wouldn't know where to start!
