I recently decided to go back to school to earn a degree in a field that I TRULY have an interest in. I have a BS and a MPA, both of which helped me to some dgree in my lifein public service. I recently retired (at 40) and I'm looking to start a new career. I started another Grad program but I'm being told by some people that I should not waste my time, rather go for the Ph. D. Are two Master's a waste of time?

personal experience here: go for the PhD if you can, anf if you know that you are really interested in the subject.

I have 2 master's, and now i start again to finally get my PhD. getting a second master's has been a huge waste of time for me and to be honnest, one or 2 masters really doesnt make all that much of a difference...

so, dont waste time, go for the PhD!!

No education is a waste of time.

I got my MBA at age 44 and my PhD at 48.

The only reason to get a PhD is because you can't not do it. You have to love the field and be driven to do research. If you aren't -- then you are wasting everyone's time & you should get another master's degree. If you are -- then you have to do it.

It really depends on the field. If you're trying to get a master's in astronomy, for example, unless you want to teach community college, don't waste your time - you can't get a job without a Ph.D. You might want to ask around and see what your job prospects are with the masters before you make up your mind.

If you have the time, the money, and the tolerance for B.S..; go for the PhD. I have an MBA and I could only wish of going back to get my PhD. Good luck !
