plecostimus -- no way good algae eater but make more mess than they clean up.

Gold fish -- yes but kind of an "everyone's got one" type fish

I would say neon tetras -- hardy but need 3-5 at least (schooling fish) small so you can have many. And the dont breed easily in captivity, so no unwanted pregnancies so to speak.

Platys and barbs are hardy too but both species have aggressive tendencies the barbs more than the platys. No glass barbs they die way too easily.

platys are easy to breed but will eat their young if not seperated from them so no little mouths to feed if you dont want them.

If you want to breed fish mollies and platys are great and pretty. there are special breeders (mini tanks) you can put pregnant females in that allow the babies to swim down and away from mom. And also have breeder grass in the tank so the jeuveniles have a place to hide from older fish.

Oscars. They are quite intelligent and you can train them to do simple tricks. Make sure that they have been fed with flake or pelleted foods or you will have to feed them with live food. I find nothing crueler than putting a small fish in a tank with no place to go except down into another fish's belly. In the wild the small fish at least have a sporting chance to get away.
My son has one that is about 10inches and another one he's growing so he can put them together.

plecostimus...a good algae eater that is very shy. Works great with any other fish in a tank.

Depends on how big of a tank you are willing to get and how much care you want ti put into it. If you want something hardy and simple that doesn't take up a lot of space...you'll want to get a betta splenden. (Betta for short)
