There are several ways to access Yahoo! Mail using Thunderbird. The easiest way I know of is to use the webmail extension http://webmail.mozdev.org/). Actually, you need 2 extensions. You need the webmail extension (mandatory) and the extension for your particular e-mail service (e.g. Gmail. Yahoo! Mail or Hotmail). Download the extensions at: http://webmail.mozdev.org/

1. Download webmail 1.0.12
2. Downlad yahoo 1.1.4

Next, start Thunderbird. From the menu bar go to Tools > Options > Extensions > click [Install] > browse to where to downloaded the extensions > click [Open] > Restart.

For detail instructions on configuring the extensions go to: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=439333

Yahoo free webmail does not have the servers that you need in order to send and receive email using email clients. You can buy the enhanced services which allow for email clients such as thunderbird or outlook express to send and receive mail. I know there are some downloads that will port the mail for you. but I am not sure if they work with thunderbird. Regardless they will seriously impact your computers performance and are not worth your time.
